Advanced Research Planning and Methodology for Doctoral Research
This course prepares candidates to undertake substantial, original and independent doctoral research at EQF Level 8. It develops the advanced research-planning, methodological, critical, ethical and scholarly capabilities required to define a significant research problem and establish a rigorous and feasible programme of doctoral research. The course culminates in a structured Research Plan and Research Plan Presentation.
Research Development and Progress Review
This course supports candidates in conducting sustained, original doctoral research in accordance with the approved Research Plan. It develops increasing research independence, methodological rigour, critical analysis and scholarly engagement while enabling the candidate to produce a substantial body of doctoral-level work and demonstrate credible progress toward thesis completion.
Thesis Completion and Viva Voce Examination
This course enables candidates to complete, integrate and critically refine a substantial body of original doctoral research into a coherent thesis and to demonstrate ownership, originality, methodological rigour and scholarly contribution through the viva voce examination.
Assessment
Each stage of the programme is evaluated through continuous supervision engagement, scholarly participation, and developmental research outputs, alongside major doctoral milestones, including a Research Plan and presentation in Year 1, a Progress Report and presentation in Year 2, and the final doctoral thesis submission accompanied by an oral viva voce examination in Year 3. Assessment methods and formal progression requirements are structured across each stage to evaluate independent research development, methodological rigour, and scholarly contribution.
